Longer ago than I care to admit I started running road races. 5k, 10k, 15k, 1/2 marathon, marathon (and a few others). Every race is a little different, has its own unique character – course, landmarks, crowd, etc. The thing road races share is scoring – time, it’s all about time. The Rallye 66 Ranger Run is a little different.

There are a number of things I like about the Ranger Run. A few of them are:

  1. The cause – Peterson Outdoor Ministries is doing important work with our veterans who have sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy.
  2. The people – From the race planning group to the race day volunteers and the competitors I’ve gotten a chance to get to know some really great people both years.
  3. The friendly competition – You won’t see a lot of arrogance on display, but make no mistake Ranger Run competitors are there to challenge themselves and to compete.

All of those characteristics of the Ranger Run are great, but what truly sets the Ranger Run apart is the challenge. The Ranger Run is a unique combination of physical challenges and uses a scoring system that levels the field for men and women, young and old. For someone (me) who has never won a road race, the Ranger Run offers a different twist. Running a fast 5-mile is part of what you are after in the Ranger Run, but that alone won’t win you any hardware. As a matter of fact a fast runner who struggles with push ups and sit ups will likely score lower than a decent runner who has trained for the other disciplines. The Ranger Run is as much a test of overall physical fitness as it is a road race.

If you are someone who likes to compete, are looking for something that is more than just a road race, something that will challenge you in a number of ways, something you can train for just about anywhere or any time the Ranger Run is for you.
